From Sri Lanka to Watford
Studio Batik brings original clothing from Sri Lankan workshops to the UK, and keeps the prices fair.
Buying a real batik frock or saree from the UK used to mean a long parcel wait from Colombo, or asking family to fill a suitcase. We started Studio Batik so you can order the real thing and have it at your door in days.
How batik is made
Artisans draw each design onto cotton with hot wax, then dip the cloth in dye. Waxed areas stay their original colour. The process is repeated for every colour, and the wax cracks as it cools, leaving the fine veins that make every piece unique.
More than batik
Alongside batik we bring in sarees, kurthas, kids’ wear and fabric from Sri Lanka — the latest styles, picked for UK customers and sized for UK bodies.
Who we are
We’re a small, family-run shop based in Watford, Hertfordshire. If you have a question about a piece, a size or an occasion, message us — a real person will reply.
